Holiday Bible Club - 28th July - 1st August

HBC Bookings: bookings are coming in, but we still have spaces available. We are 'staffed' to take at least 200 in the 5-14 age groups. Please take flyers and bookings forms and encourage your friends and neighbours to book in as soon as possible.
Theresa Swan

Setting Up
Can you offer some time on Saturday 26th or Sunday 27th July to help with setting up for HBC? If you can offer a couple of hours on either day, please contact Brian Allan.

Recycling!
Please collect empty cereal boxes, old/odd socks and kitchen roll tubes to use at holiday bible club.
Jacki Brown will collect them from a box at the back of the churches from next week

Food for thought - an evening event for adults on the HBC site on Thursday 31st July for anyone curious about Christianity. It will be an evening of lively debate (any questions to a panel), lite bites and live music (Freeway). Please be thinking who you could be inviting - invitation slips will be available this Sunday in Church and from here. Please pray that many will be drawn to this event and helped by it.

Other News

Thanksgiving Service - Arborfield Junior School
There is to be a Thanksgiving Service at Arborfield Junior School at 9.00 am on Tuesday 22nd July 2008 to commemorate the previous 130 years of Arborfield School before its amalgamation this coming September with The Coombes.

Arborfield PCC and members of Arborfield and Barkham congregations who have connections, however tenuous, with Arborfield, Newland and Barkham Church of England School are invited by the school governors to join with the school for this occasion – and partake of refreshments following the service. Please let Barbara Teague or Sandy in the church office know if you intend to come. Drivers should note that it is best to park in either the British Legion or Recreation Ground car parks and walk from there to the school.

Summer Sunday Club's @ Barkham and Arborfield
We would really like to continue to run activities for the children during the Summer holidays and also give the Sunday Club teachers a holiday! We are looking for volunteers to help out with some activities for the children during the school summer holidays. No experience required but you will need to be CRB checked - if required materials will be provided - all you need to bring is your enthusiasm!

We need volunteers for 10th/17th/24th and 31st August

If you can help or want to have a chat about what might be involved please contact Gavin or Jacki Brown for the Barkham congregation….. and please sign up on the sheet at the back of church if you are a member of the Arborfield congregation.

Men's Golf Day - 6th September
Once again we are holding a golf day at Wellington College's exclusive 9 hole course in Crowthorne. The day is open to any men who are able to play golf and who have their own clubs and shoes. This is an ideal opportunity to invite friends who enjoy playing golf. The day will start at 8.30 am followed by 18 holes - there will be a bangers and mash lunch followed by a short Christian talk. The event will finish at approximately 2.15 pm. Cost: £20 which includes golf, lunch, table drinks and prizes.
For more information contact: Tony Burgess.

The London Women's Convention
A date not to be missed if you are a woman, Saturday 4th October 2008.
The title this year is "from chaos to splendour, finding refuge in the sovereign God". There is only one convention this year at the ExCel centre in London's Docklands. It is a big venue, so this is the year to invite family members and friends. There will be a choice of nine seminars in the morning as well as nine in the afternoon. Carrie Sandom will be the main speaker on Ruth and Naomi.

Arborfield and Barkham churches will organize a coach to take us there and bring us back (be prepared for a long day). We will know the costs shortly. Booking forms will be with all congregations by Sunday 27 July and I would appreciate them returned by 31st August.

If you haven't been before, this is the year to join us!
Any further questions please contact Eva Rickett (Barkham) or www.christianconventions.org.uk

FREEWAY is an evangelistic Christian band including people from Sundays@7 and the Whitehouse. Our first album "Contraflow" is now on sale. You can buy it for the bargain price of £7. It is available from our website (www.freewayband.co.uk) and it will also be on sale at each of the churches. Contraflow would be a GREAT gift for enquiring friends - so if you are interested in buying more than one copy, please talk to one of us (Nicci Gilchrist, Stephen Bruce, Richard Clements or Andy Kensley) about bulk buy discounts.
