OMF
- Overseas Missionary Fellowship
|
|
OMF,
formerly China Inland Mission, send short and long term missionaries
to support Christian movements in East Asia.
Their aim is that through God's grace they might see an indigenous,
biblical church planting movement in each people group of East
Asia, evangelising their own people and reaching out in mission
to other peoples. OMF work to serve the church and bring the gospel
to 12 countries in East Asia. They help send Christians with professional
skills to China and other Asian countries, in order that they
can share the love of Christ with East Asians worldwide.

Focus - February 2006 |
PATRICK FUNG, NEW OMF GENERAL DIRECTOR
Dr. Patrick Fung has recently taken over as General Director
of OMF International. Fung, a Chinese Christian from Hong Kong,
is the first Asian to lead the mission in its 140-year history.
Fung will be officially commissioned as General Director on
Feb. 11 in Singapore at OMF's international HQs.
Fung says "our desire is that there may be a mature, vibrant,
indigenous church movement in China for the Kingdom of God,
reaching out to the unreached
. In the past, China received
the gospel. In the future, may the gospel go out from China
to the ends of the world. The Gospel is for all nations, it's
not just for China. I pray that the church in China may catch
that vision. I believe it is already happening."
One of the greatest challenges the church in China faces today
is materialism and secularism. With a growing economy in China,
the temptation of materialism is strong. False teaching is also
very common.
Please pray
-
For
wisdom and guidance for Patrick as he takes on this new responsibility.
And for his family - wife, Jennie and children, Elaine, 13,
and Samuel, 6.
-
That
Christians in China may grow spiritually strong, deeply rooted
in the Word of God.
-
Christians
in China (as here) need to be witnesses for Christ wherever
they may be in the workplace, whether they are farmers, laborers
professionals, or in business. Pray that they may be light
and salt for Christ.
-
Pray
for integrity amongst Christians that transformed lives may
bring about transformation in the community.

- GLENYS (GIG) GOULSTONE
Gig joined OMF in October 1985, having become connected
with Arborfield and Barkham just before that. She ran
our Holiday Bible Club that summer.
She
went first to Taiwan, where, after two years of Mandarin
language study, she served for two years in student
ministry and then three years as part of a church-planting
team.
In
1994 she served at OMF's International Headquarters
in Singapore as Deputy Director for Personnel.
From 1995 - 2000 OMF seconded her to serve with a non-profit
company in China, first as Personnel Manager in Hong
Kong, then as Chief Representative in its office in
mainland China. This company exists to introduce, support
and equip Christian professionals to be witnesses "in
the marketplace" and "among the poor and needy"
in that country.
Since
2001 she has been part of the OMF US mobilisation team.
In 2002 she was appointed as Regional Coordinator for
all of OMF's ministries in the US Southwest Region,
which includes southern California, southern Nevada,
Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.
Because of her background, she is well equipped to
a) recruit new workers for the so-called "closed"
countries of East Asia.
b) relate to Chinese churches in her region.
She enjoys worshipping at a Chinese church which has
a strong mission interest, and acts as an advisor to
their missions committee.

Please
pray for Gig:
- Interviewing,
advising and nurturing potential candidates
- Organising
events with a mission education/mobilization focus
- Doing
mission education in universities and churches locally
- Organising
regional team meetings once a month
- For capable
and reliable administrative help
- For her
spiritual life and personal witness
