A Warm Welcome
Welcome. We are a "family friendly" evangelical church, serving the people of Barkham and the wider area. We welcome those who want to investigate Christianity and those who want to know how to keep on following Jesus.
Our Sunday evening service (also known as "Sundays at 7") starts at 7pm, but tea, coffee and biscuits are served from approximately 6.45pm.
During each service, we look at the Bible together, pray and sing a mixture of old hymns and modern songs.
You can find out more about us and what we do by selecting one of the tabs at the top right of this page.
Together for the Gospel
Instead of our regular services, on 29 January, we will be joining together with Arborfield and Christ Church at 10am at St Crispin’s school. This annual service is a great encouragement as we gather as a family of churches. We can enjoy singing God’s praises led by a larger band than usual and we will be hearing God’s word preached to us. There will be full provision for children. This replaces all other regular services on that day (including Sundays@7)
We encourage everyone to use the monthly prayer diary - available from the Church, or you can download a copy here
SOME UPCOMING EVENts:
Our monthly meeting for ‘seniors’ and those who may be on their own, CAMEO meets on the second Monday of the month for a time of fellowship, encouragement from God’s word and an excellent tea! Arborfield Church Hall. 1.30pm.
‘The Cafe Fellowship’
A new opportunity to meet up informally with one another midweek. On the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, anyone who is free would be very welcome to drop in to ‘The Cafe Fellowship’. A chance to meet up, catch up and encourage one another. Meet in the cafe, at Henry Street Garden Centre at 11.00am.
Barkham Book Library
The Barkham book library is now open for business at the back of the church, with a wide range of titles on offer. (Hopefully with an online list coming soon as well...)
To borrow a book, write your name and date on the white card inside the book, and put the card in the box. When you've finished, leave the book on top of the bookcase.
If you have any Christian books that you would like to donate, please speak to Nigel or Julian, so that we can keep a good balance of books that support the Gospel teaching at St James.
Large print service sheets
We now produce a couple of large print copies of the service sheet and news sheet. Do bear them in mind if you are bringing a guest who may appreciate this. If you are visiting us and would like a large print copy, please feel welcome to ask when offered a service sheet.
We encourage all regulars to belong to a small group as they are places where we can get to know, support and encourage one another in our faith in Jesus. Groups are just about to begin again so this is a great time to join. We have evening groups as well as daytime groups for women. Have a word with Julian or David if you would like to know more or to join one.
Looking for a good book? Want to grow in your understanding of the Bible or of what it means to be a Christian? Looking for something helpful for your children or for a friend? Click on the '10ofthose' logo and you’ll find two things: First, a list of ten helpful books that we think anyone would benefit from reading; and secondly, three books that fit particularly well with things we are looking at as a church family right now. 10ofthose is an excellent Christian bookseller - so do take a few minutes to browse the rest of their site as well.
